Poets Sherwin Bitsui will present his poetry. Poet Eliana Rivero will present her work and the poetry of Pablo Neruda. Brazilian Composer and vocalist, Luciana Souza, who shares her birthday with Pablo Neruda, will sing songs from her new album Neruda, accompanied by Kevin Hays. The album Neruda was produced to honor the great Chilean poet whose 100th birthday passed on July 12, 2004.


Friday, September 10

Chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts & poet Dana Gioia will present his thoughts on poetry and music, as well as read Elizabeth Bishop’s poetry. Tucson Symphony Composer-in-Residence Dan Coleman’s Quintet (After Elizabeth Bishop) will be performed by Tucson Symphony Orchestra Members Carla Ecker, Violin 2; Steven Moeckel, Violin 1; Nelzimar Neves, Cello; Jeremy Reynolds, Clarinet; & Ann Weaver, Viola.

   

Saturday, September 11 (Day)

Small Group Sessions & Conversations with TPF™ Poets are a vital aspect of Tucson Poetry Festival's™ program. Guest poets lead generative-based sessions. Each session is 60 minutes long and addresses some aspect of the 2004 Tucson Poetry Festival™ theme: Poetry & Music. To further explore this year's theme, TPF™ guest poets, composers meet with you to converse about the relationship between poetry & music. In addition, TPF™ will host a two-hour Word & Music Open Microphone Jam. This is your opportunity to spend intimate time with TPF™ poets and to express yourself!


Saturday, September 11 (Evening)

Poet Paul Pines will present his poetry. Composer Daniel Asia’s Breath In a Ram's Horn, and the world premiere of the complete Pines Songs II (Poems by Paul Pines that have been set to music) will be sung by New York vocalist, Robert Swensen with piano accompaniment by Tucsonan, Tannis Gibson.
