The 22nd annual Tucson Poetry Festival™ is the second in a series of Tucson Poetry Festivals™ that highlights and explores poetry's connection to other forms of artistic expression, such as film, dance, and painting. With the assistance of this year's guest poets—Sherwin Bitsui, Dana Gioia, Paul Pines, and Eliana Rivero; guest composers—Dan Coleman and Dan Asia; guest musicians—Carla Ecker, Tannis Gibson, Kevin Hays, Steven Moeckel, Nelzimar Neves, Jeremy Reynolds, and Ann Weaver; guest singers—Luciana Soza and Robert Swensen as well as local writers, musicians, composers, and you—our big, beautiful poetry and music audience—we will examine the relationship between poetry and music from varied cultural backgrounds, historic perspectives, and artistic issues. There is a long history of poets and musicians collaborating to create symphonic poems and poetic symphonies. The 2004 guest poets are especially influenced by music and have established collaborations with musicians and composers. We invite you to Come! Listen! and Sing! With you by our side, we look forward to exploring the inexorable relationship between poetry and music.
