An Exploration of Photography and Poetry
Co-sponsors Tucson Poetry Festival™ & The Center for Creative Photography present the photographs of Aaron Siskind & A discussion of Abstract Expressionism: The Commingling Spirits of Dissatisfaction and Improvisation by JohnYau. Art critic, John Yau, who since the late 1970's has written for Art in America, Artforum, and Vogue, and has taught at Bard College and Maryland Institute College of Art, will frame the Abstract Expressionists movement and provide context for both Siskind's photographs and poetry as well as the work of film makers, painters and musicians creating art after World War II. Following Yau's discussion, there will be time for questions and a reception with drinks and hors d'oeuvres. Then, Tucson Poetry Festival™ presents Cuban-born poet Virgil Suarez who will read from his work long-steeped in the cultural tragedies and upheaval of a Cuban immigrant to the United States. Hear the poetic juxtaposition of the abstract with the concrete, followed by Q & A with the author.
